There have been various reports on different sites about the availability of the Windows 10 upgrade for pirated copies of Windows 7 and 8 floating around. There’s a quote going around from Microsoft that states “We are upgrading all qualified PCs, genuine and non-genuine, to Windows 10,” and that can be found on Reuters. What that means is that basically there’s two stories going around. One of which is on Wired which says that Windows 10 will be free while on Yahoo they are a bit more skeptical.

Wired and Yahoo have the same general concept that Windows 10 will be free to upgrade no matter what however they disagree on what will happen after the upgrade. Wired and plenty of other sites are taking the quote to mean that Windows 10 will be free to upgrade with no problems after that, even for pirates. Yahoo believes that the upgrade will be free however after the upgrade happens some sort of authentication will happen and make the copy of Windows 10 not completely legitimate.

What are your thoughts? Do you think that Windows 10 should be free to upgrade even for pirates or do you think that only paying customers should get the upgrade?
